About this Treks

The Route

The Annapurna Circuit starts in the Marsyangdi valley, around Besisahar or a higher road head, and climbs through Chame to Manang. The crossing is Thorong La at 5,416 m, then Muktinath, Jomsom, and the Kali Gandaki down toward Pokhara.

What You’ll See

Annapurna II and III and Gangapurna fill the Manang side. After the pass the land turns dry, with Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri over the Kali Gandaki.

Day by Day

Give it two weeks or a little more. Rest days in Manang matter. The pass day is long, cold, and the reason the earlier nights are slow.

People & Places

Manang is a stone town with a monastery. Toward Jomsom the lodges are Thakali. Teahouses run the whole way, and the Annapurna permit covers the circuit.

Why This Trip

Choose the circuit when you want the full Annapurna circle and a pass higher than any base camp, and you have the days to walk it properly.

Best time to go

Spring (March–May)Lush forests, blooming rhododendrons, and longer days make spring a popular choice. Thorong La is usually snow-free by late April.

Autumn (Sept–Nov)Crisp air and clear skies offer unmatched mountain views. Trails are busier, but scenery is unbeatable.

Winter (Dec–Feb)Cold but quieter. Some lodges close at high passes. Check conditions and pack for extreme cold if going in winter.

Monsoon (June–Aug)Expect slippery trails and leeches in the lower regions. However, the Mustang side remains drier and can be a hidden monsoon gem.

What to pack

Layered ClothingTemperatures vary wildly. Pack moisture-wicking base layers, insulating fleece, and a waterproof jacket.
