A short brief for 2026. Visa rules and fees change, so confirm the figure on the immigration site before you fly.

Visa Information

Most visitors can get a tourist visa on arrival at Tribhuvan Airport or at a land border. Bring a passport with six months left and enough cash for the fee.

Visa for SAARC Citizens

Citizens of SAARC countries, except Afghanistan, are usually given a free 30-day visa on the first visit of a visa year.

Visa for Indian Citizens

Indian citizens do not need a visa. A government photo identity card or passport is enough at the open border.

Visa for Other Nationals

Other passports can use on-arrival entry, or a visa from a Nepal embassy. An issued visa is normally used within six months.

On-Arrival Visa

Fill the arrival form, pay the fee, and collect the visa sticker. Card machines are not reliable, so carry US dollars or the local cash they ask for.

Walk the trails, then stay for the cities. The hills and the old towns are close enough to do both.

Trekking Permit Requirements

Your papers

  • The online application, filled in before you go to the office
  • A passport copy, and a copy of the visa sticker
  • Four passport photographs

The agency

  • A guarantee letter from the registered agency
  • Tax clearance and the tourism ministry license
  • Insurance papers for the group

The trek itself

  • The names of everyone on the permit
  • The day-by-day program and the route
  • The bank voucher for the permit fee

A restricted-area permit is issued to the agency, not to you alone. Stay on the listed route with a licensed guide. A climbing permit is a separate paper.

Common questions

How much is a tourist visa in 2026?

On arrival the usual cash fees are $30 for 15 days, $50 for 30 days and $125 for 90 days. Confirm the figure on the Nepal Immigration site before you fly.

Do Indian citizens need a visa?
