Capital Deukhuri

Lumbini Province is western Nepal, named for Lumbini, the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama. Deukhuri is the provincial capital, and there are 12 districts. Pilgrims go to the Mayadevi Temple in Lumbini, then to Tilaurakot in Kapilvastu. The road from Kathmandu is a long day; many people fly to Gautam Buddha Airport at Siddharthanagar and drive a short way to the sacred garden. Butwal is the road junction. Tansen, in Palpa, is the hill town for dhaka cloth. Nepalgunj, in Banke, is the western air hub, and Bardiya National Park is a short drive farther west.
