About this Treks

The Route

Everest Gokyo is the same as far as Lukla and Namche. After that you enter the Gokyo valley instead of the base-camp trail. The lakes, Gokyo Ri, and the Ngozumpa Glacier are the high part. Some plans cross a pass and come back to the Everest side.

What You’ll See

The lakes are a deep blue under Cho Oyu. From Gokyo Ri you see Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu, and the white flow of the Ngozumpa.

Day by Day

The number of days is close to the Everest Base Camp trek. Past Namche the lodges are quieter. Keep the rest day in Namche before you go higher.

People & Places

This is the same Sherpa land. Off the main trail there are fewer people. Lodging is teahouses. You need the national park permit, the Khumbu entry, and a licensed guide.

Why This Trip

Choose Gokyo when you want the lakes and a wide view, not only the camp by the Khumbu Glacier.
